Compress a PDF file

Upload one PDF, use a fixed mode, and compare sizes; the original is never overwritten.

Ghostscript uses about 150 dpi for ordinary screen reading and moderate printing.

The selected PDF and fixed mode are sent over HTTPS to the GoGo document-converter backend. Limits are 25 MiB, 300 pages, and 55 seconds. The ticket is single-use and valid for 90 seconds. Ticket limits are 2 per client minute, 10 per client day, and 250 site-wide per day. Quota records are retained for 2 days; CAPTCHA claim records are retained for 1 day.

The PDF and fixed mode are sent by HTTPS to GoGo document-converter Cloud Run and processed in a request-specific temporary directory. Cleanup runs after every terminal path—success, error, timeout, or abort—but no exact physical deletion instant is promised. A single-use ticket expires after 90 seconds; limits are 2 per client minute, 10 per client day, and 250 site-wide per day. Quota records expire after 2 days and CAPTCHA claim records after 1 day; Firestore TTL deletion is asynchronous. Files, contents, names, and results are not put in Firestore, Cloud Storage, cache, backup, or GA4.

Rewriting may invalidate digital signatures or change forms, attachments, layers, bookmarks, links, color, fonts, transparency, and interactive behavior. Cancel aborts the browser request; the backend observes the abort, terminates the child process, and cleans the temporary directory, but cannot retract bytes already sent and completion can race with cancellation. Inspect the download before replacing the original.

FAQ

PDF compressor:What files can I upload?

Upload exactly one structurally valid, unencrypted PDF whose extension, MIME type, and %PDF- signature agree. The limits are 25 MiB and 300 pages. Empty, damaged, encrypted, password-protected, mismatched, or over-limit files are rejected before a compressor runs.

PDF compressor:How do the three modes process a PDF?

Lossless uses fixed qpdf settings to rebuild object streams and recompress eligible streams without lowering image resolution. Balanced uses fixed Ghostscript pdfwrite settings at about 150 dpi. Smallest uses about 96 dpi and stronger JPEG compression. Processing stops after 55 seconds and output is capped at 100 MiB. The original is not overwritten, and an equal or larger result is not called a saving.

PDF compressor:What can change, and what does cancel do?

Rewriting may invalidate digital signatures or change forms, attachments, layers, bookmarks, links, color, fonts, transparency, and interactive behavior. Cancel aborts the browser request; the backend observes the abort, terminates the child process, and cleans the temporary directory, but cannot retract bytes already sent and completion can race with cancellation. Inspect the download before replacing the original.
